With it being a holiday weekend, we're going to go ahead and extend the Flashback weekend through Monday evening at 7:00---hope you enjoy it!
New Movies:
Machete. It stars Danny Trejo as Machete, a legendary ex-federale who's randomly chosen to be the fall guy for a crooked political assassination. But, like the trailer says, they just "blanked with the wrong Mexican." There's a cast of thousands in this thing, and it looks pretty cheesy---but it's getting solid reviews.
The American. A suspense thriller starring George Clooney as an assassin hiding out in Italy after a job goes bad. Despite wanting to quit the business, he accepts one last job building a custom rifle for a female assassin, but thing s get more complicated than that. It's getting really good reviews.
Going The Distance. A romantic comedy starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long as a couple stumbling through a long-distance relationship after an intense 6 week summer fling. The trailer didn't look funny and the reviews have been mediocre, at best.
Theater:
The Last Five Years. Presented by the EMU Theater. Friday and Saturday night on Thomas Plaza at the EMU Campus Center at 7:30. 432-4360.
Music:
The Blackwood Brothers. 7:00 Friday night at the Weyers Cave Community Center.
The Remedy. Saturday night at 9:30 on Thomas Plaza at the EMU Campus Center. 432-4362.
Jubal's Kin. Friday night at 7:30 at Court Square Theater. 433-9189.
We're getting close to a three day weekend---looking forward to it, to say the least! And with Monday being a holiday, we're rolling with the Flashback weekend through Monday!
You're probably spending money on things you don't really need, so let's save you some money today. Here are some common ways people waste money: Car Insurance. Raising your deductible to $500 or $1,000 cuts costs on collision and comprehensive coverage by 30 to 40 percent. If your car is more than 10 years old, drop the collision coverage altogether---it's not worth it. Cable TV. There's competition for your business now. You can get TV from your phone company or by satellite. Often, just threatening to switch providers is enough to get you a better deal. Medical. If something you need isn't covered completely by your medical insurance, ask your doctor nicely if he will write-off the difference. It's amazing how often they will. Food. Three words for you: Local Farmers Market. Items are usually fresher and cheaper.
I get so annoyed by emails that say stuff like "Open This," "Please Pass This On, " "What's up?" or something similar. In fact, I delete virtually all of those, and most people I know do, too! If you want someone to read your emails, then summarize your message in the subject line in a few words. Give the reader a clue. If you don't, you've got no one to blame but yourself if your emails don't get read.
There is so much going on I don't know where to start. So I'll start here: tomorrow morning at 7:20, we'll give a Lite Loyal Listener a shot at $50. If you're not signed up, go to our home page when you get through here and sign up. And while you're on our home page, like us on Facebook, too!
Ladies, if you're into perfumes and fragrances, you'll want to keep reading. For more than 6 years, reporters at Harper's Bizarre have been ivestigating counterfeit perfume. And what they found---you're not going to like. Perfume can get absorbed into the skin, and the stuff they found in some of these bogus perfumes---antifreeze, bacteria, and urine---can cause skin problems and worse. To avoid fake fragrances: Buy from a reputable retailer. If you buy perfume at a flea market or out of someone's trunk, you're asking for trouble. If the price is really low, chances are it's a fake. Beware of people claiming they're reselling perfume. Especially on the Internet. They may say they got the perfume as a gift and don't want it. More likely? They're looking for an easy victim. Check out the real stuff. Before you buy it cheap, go to a department store and examine the real thing carefully so you know what it's supposed to look like. Read the print. Watch for an uneven brand name or any misspelling. Examine barcodes. Perfume barcodes are almost always on the bottom of the box.
